Last week, there was a bit of controversy around a contest for adoption blogs put on over at Circle of Moms. The contest ended up being shut down after one blog was removed by the contest and others protested. I’m sure it was hurtful for the woman whose blog was removed, but something positive came out of it…people on all sides of adoption began a dialogue.
When Adoption Magazine was nominated for the contest, though I didn’t like the contest aspect (anything that requires voting like that in a popularity contest reminds me too much of junior high!), I did like the opportunity it presented for me to find new blogs to read that I may not otherwise have found and for readers who might not have known about us to check us out. I love finding new adoption related sites and the part that I was disappointed about when the contest was shut down was no longer having that chance, so I am creating an adoption blog hop.
This blog hop will be open to all those affected by adoption, not just adoptive parents. My hope is that we will all let go of our preconceived notions and read with an open mind and heart. Sometimes fear, assumptions, and the unknown can make us feel threatened. But I believe that as long as everyone is respectful and open minded, we have so much we can learn from each other. I hope that this blog hop will further break down the barriers.
I am not going to add thumbnails because I really want people to visit blogs they might normally not have visited. The rules for the blog hop are that other than being respectful when visiting each other’s sites, there are no rules. You do not need to link back here, though it would be great if you would so that more people could join. You don’t need to plug Adoption Magazine or vote for anyone or give your left kidney. You just join.
